The Challenge: A Gateway to the Black Hills (and High Hurdles)
In Rapid City, we are used to impressive heights—we have the granite faces of Mount Rushmore watching over us and the jagged beauty of the Black Hills just a stone’s throw away. However, Ray found himself facing a peak he no longer wanted to summit every morning: his own bathtub.
Ray’s existing tub-shower combo was, to put it mildly, “monumental” in size. While it may have been great for a long soak after a windy day at Bear Butte, it had become a treacherous climb. Stepping over that high wall was getting harder and less safe by the day. When you are living in the “Gateway to the Black Hills,” the last thing you want is for your bathroom to feel like a dangerous hike without a Sherpa.
To make matters even more “pressurized,” Ray isn’t just any homeowner—he is a former plumber. When a pro who knows the difference between a P-trap and a hole in the ground calls for help, you know the stakes are higher than a South Dakota summer temperature.
The Solution: Precision Engineering for a Pro
The team at Duckota Shower & Bath knew they couldn’t just “wing it” with a former plumber watching the pipes. We moved in to replace the aging, oversized unit with a system that prioritized safety without sacrificing the aesthetic.
The Transformation Included:
- The “Great Wall” Demolition: We removed the high-walled tub that was causing safety concerns.
- The Low-Threshold Entry: We installed a sleek, low-entry shower pan, effectively turning a “mountain climb” into a walk in the park.
- Plumber-Approved Hardware: A modern showerhead and heavy-duty chrome grab bar were installed to ensure Ray’s morning routine was as steady as the Needles Highway.
- Style Meets Function: We swapped the old-school shower curtain for sophisticated, textured sliding glass doors and added built-in corner shelving to keep the “plumbing” of the shower organized.
The Outcome: The Ultimate Seal of Approval
In the world of home renovation, there is no tougher critic than a retired tradesman. We are thrilled to report that Ray—the man who has seen more pipes than a church organist—was beyond impressed.
The new system is beautiful, modern, and, most importantly, safe. Ray and his wife are now enjoying a bathroom that feels less like a hazard zone and more like a private spa. When the finished product got the nod from a former plumber, we knew we had hit a home run (or at least a very solid line drive at a Rapid City Marshals game).
Safe, stylish, and South Dakota tough—another successful mission for the Duckota crew.
